CUTSE 2008

(Day 1)
Curtin University of Technology Science and Engineering International Conference short form as CUTSE held on 24-27 Nov. 24 Nov activities are participants reached Miri and ice breaker dinner at Imperial Hotel. So my Day 1 refer to 25 Nov. Today the opening ceremony started at 9am and plenary sessions held in LT started on 11am. The first speaker is Pro. Anthony (Tony) D Owen from Curtin, Perth and his speech title is "The Economics of Alternative Transport Fuels". He is the Professor of Energy Economics. The second plenary session speaker is Dr Kelly Maguire from Sarawak Shell Berhad who is a Petroluem Geologist with the speech titled "Sedimentology and its Application in the Petroluem Industry". After lunch, there is parrallel sessions divided into 3 groups which are Civil Engineering, Petroluem Geology and Mechanical Engineering. So, i am going for Mechanical one...hoho...
The first participant, Nazreen from Astronautic Technology (M) Sdn Bhd Malaysia is presenting the "small nozzles system applications for small satellite". "Thermo elastic analysis of melting steel carrier ladie by finite element method" presented by Shahrooi from UM. The session continue by Fazal with "effect of biodiesel on engine parts". It is very unlucky because some partcipants do not attend on their presentation such as the participant who is going to present "trends of air fuel ratio and crank angle on engine performance of four cyclinder direct injection hydrogen fueled engine". Sienzzz lo...the end of day 1...hehe...

(Day 2)
Today is started with the lecture titled "key drivers of new technology application in the exploration and production business sector in Miri, Sarawak from the perspective of PETRONAS Carigali". The second plenary session's speaker is Dr Arosha Senanayake from Monash Uni with the title "Bio-Interfacing Devices (BID)". BID just like devices that can used to measure and determine the motions of athlettes in sports field such as badminton (my favourite...hehe), soccer, swimming and sprinter. His speech is quite interesting. For the plenary session, i will just touch on one only which is the one i understand and amaze, "Modular power Extension Socket Outlet(MOST)" by Rodney Tan. MOST is a power extension which cascade each other using C13 female socket and C14 male socket. Its a improved power extension that you sure hope this product is on market. The end of day 2...tomorrow is the last day...huhu...

Yea...a new post from me after a long period no update in my blog...
For ur information, i just finish my year 1 sem 2 final exam 3 days ago...haha...nice!
4 units in my final: Engineering Physics 100, Engineering Mathematics 140, Engineering Programming 100 and Electrical Systems 100.
The night after exam which is Monday night, go rex box with friends to hv fun!
The next day go Brunei to hv a great sushi lunch...

Saturday 20 Sept 2008...went to Shin Yang shipyard organized by cutec...
7.00 go eat breakfast with kang kang, kam cheng, kenny, chee theng and pxb...
7.45 gather at student drop off point...
8.00 depart!!!
shipyard just located not far from our campus...less than 1 hour can reach there already

the part i like the most....engine...2 V12 engines used to power Laura 3...of course not car de v12...this one more heavy duty one...2700hp from both engines...a normal car just more than 100 hp...give u a comparison

12 August...this is the day the new ICT com lab for general access is opened...
For the few weeks ago, people more than coms...As Dr Tang told us, use ur gaps wisely...
But now, problems more better, at least i can use com when i am free...
New com with LCD+24 hours (start next week)...nice Curtin...

Miri August 2008 BLACK OUT!!!

This is the very first time no electricity near one hour (i guess) in Miri since i been here for one and half years...
When no electricity, i am on the way to campus as kang2 at campus there (around 7.00)....haha
At first, i thought just senadin no elec one...but my friend told me that Kuching, Sibu and Sarikei same too...><"
Nothing we can do, we just wait at campus...campus also dark and car lights used as lamp...lol...
After one hour being there "friend" with mosquitoes...elec come back...and we planning to hv our dinner...so hungry la...
But...unfortunately, bad thing happened again...just half of the area got elec...what la!!!
We go friend house whose house got elec one...eat maggi and play joker there...
And u can hear SOMEONE who high already sing love songs FREE one...!!! he deledte the video that i help him recorded la...chicken him
And place to eat got elec one...full of people...if wan to eat, need to wait half an hour...
Finally found somewhere can eat liao lu...haha...almost 10.30 ate my dinner...suffer la...b4 got jog le...so hungry...
Ooppss...too late liao...someone dun wan go home liao...ok lo...stay with me la...haha

b4 exam...i was busy with revision...at that time, i wonder how relax are we when finished exam
one day 24 hours is definitely not enough for us(students)...
mood also not that good and relax anymore...stress and scare
just know time pass very fast...and soon 3 continuous days exam start...

yea...time pass very fast and we are taking engineering mechanics 100 on Monday 3.30pm...unluckily...exam not yet start...already got some fever plus slightly flu..."hak zhai"...weather lo...always rain...haiz
mechanics too bad...see all questions...wan cry liao...can't find out solutions to solve it...sh**...

on wednesday night...go town watch "kung fu panda"...hoho...efficient hor...after exam...then go watch movie liao...geng ar...quite a lot of friends same course with me in cinema...haha

after exam...still need to stay at Miri for few days b4 go back...
today is just the first day...already bored...dun know what to do...

CUTEC - Bakun + SMDS trip 2008

22-23th April 2008

2 days 1 night trip
1^st day – to Shell Middle Distillate Synthesis plant (SMDS)
2^nd day – to Bakun Hydroelectric project site

Arrived at SMDS...see the yellow board there? zoom in and u will know how serious shell concern about occupational safety and health.

lunch at shell...not bad hor? global company ma...free for us (38 persons)

after lunch, then speech from Dr Adam...he is Materials engineer lai de...explain to us what is SMDS and GTL(gas to liquid). GTL is a fuel (like diesel) but GTL as clear as water and more environment friendly. GTL already retailed at some places, but not Malaysia. Dr Adam told us that the Audi R10 won 2 Le Mans is used GTL...he added "Bukan main main!"

sitting inside land rover and moving to the top of the dam...don't know lucky or what...along a row of 7-8 cars...all are toyota fortuner and our are the only one land rover...haha
now we are at the top of 205m of Bakun dam...very high here and that construction side is the spilled gateway-to allow water to flow off back to river to prevent the dam overload(very big)...
(left)me with a nice + gorgeous civil engineer from Germany...he explained a lot of the dam to me...really nice...

after this, we heading back to Miri lu...
this is a fun trip and trip that can widen ur knowledge...i like this trip very much...2 days 1 night, for me, quite short bcoz not much opportunity talk with senior
after this trip, i just knew that SMDS has nothing related with petroleum...
and build up a hydroelectric plant is not a easy...which need cooperate with civil engineer and geology at first...after that, is mechanical and electrical engineers. Bakun started constructed 2002...still need a few years before the plant can operate...
